American Museum of Natural History
American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th St. (S: 79th St./Broadway, 81st St./Central Park W.), is one of the world's preeminent scientific, educational and cultural institutions. It houses 46 permanent exhibition halls, state-of-the-art research laboratories and a permanent collection of more than 30 million specimens and cultural artifacts. Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey
Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey is e. off SR 46 following signs at Teterboro Airport to 400 Fred Wehran Dr. The museum contains aviation memorabilia and historic aircraft equipment and depicts the roles played in aviation history by New Jerseyans. Bronx Zoo
Bronx Zoo, off the Bronx River Pkwy. at exit 6/Fordham Rd. (S: Pelham Pkwy., E. Tremont Ave.), displays more than 4,000 animals in naturalistic indoor and outdoor habitats on 265 wooded acres. Congo Gorilla Forest, a 6.5-acre simulated African rain forest, is home to one of the largest gorilla troops in a North American zoo plus such endangered or threatened species as Wolf's monkeys, mandrills, okapis and hornbills. At Tiger Mountain visitors can learn about Siberian tigers through demonstrations given by animal keepers. JungleWorld is an indoor tropical Asian setting with gibbons, langur monkeys, bats and other wildlife. Edison National Historic Site
Edison National Historic Site is at Main St. and Lakeside Ave. The site preserves the laboratory complex and Glenmont, home of inventor Thomas Alva Edison and his wife, Mina Miller Edison. The visitor center features exhibits and films; access beyond the visitor center is by guided 30- to 45-minute tours only.
