New Jersey Children’s Museum
A play and learning center for pre-schoolers and toddlers features a real fire engine, helicopter and backhoe; dress-up ballet studio; castle and hospital; toddler grocery & pizzeria; science exhibits; and sand and water play. Museum may be very busy until 12:30pm as groups visit in the morning. Open weekdays 9am – 5pn; summer weekends 10am – 5pm; winter weekends 10am – 6pm. Children and adults $8, under 1 free. New Jersey Naval Museum
Naval history is displayed at its best at the New Jersey naval Museum. See the USS LING 297, a BALAO class fleet submarine, 312 feet long, weighing approximately 2500 tons. Permanently berthed at Hackensack, New Jersey, she is open to the public for tours. A Patrol Boat Riverine - Hundreds of these boats were in use in Vietnam, but only a few are still around. Many have been sold to foreign navies, stripped for parts or destroyed. The PBR in New Jersey is the only one in the Northeastern United States! The museum contains a number of different and unique items ranging from a SEAL delivery vehicle to personal photos and effects. Open Thursday -Sunday from 10am – 4pm. The last tour starts at 3:15pm.
